The highly anticipated Google Nexus 2016 has been surrounded by rumors and speculations all over the Internet. Previous reports suggested that Google has tapped HTC to help them manufacture the next Nexus smartphone. According to several reports, HTC is currently working on two Nexus devices called HTC Marlin and HTC Sailfish. However, new reports suggest that although HTC is working on a new Nexus handset, it will not be the Marlin and Sailfish.

According to a report by TechTastic, HTC recently submitted two documents with content mentioning Google and Nexus to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

"We, HTC Corporation, hereby declare that the user guide submitted for review is [a] draft and the final version will be made publicly available on Google's website at the time the product is commercially released," one of the documents stated.

Surprisingly, HTC failed to mention Marlin and Sailfish. There have been several speculations reported with regard to the two alleged Nexus variants and their rumored specs and features.

The documents were made in July but FCC did not publish it until Aug. 15. At the moment, nothing has been set in stone yet. It is still too early to assume that the HTC Marlin and HTC Sailfish will not see the light of day.

Meanwhile, despite the contradicting reports with regard to Google Nexus 2016, rumors have continued to be rampant about its development and release. In a report by BGR, leaked images of Google Nexus Sailfish have allegedly surfaced on the internet.

According to a Twitter post, the new HTC Nexus has quite a similar design to its previous model. "The 2016 HTC Nexus looks like a cross between the Nexus 4 & iPhone with glass and fingerprint scanner on the back," it said.

Android Police claims that the images are definitely of the HTC Sailfish.

Google and HTC have yet to provide an official statement in response to the latest rumors.
