Google Nexus 2016 with Android N release date, specs rumors: HTC Sailfish and HTC Marlin due out later this year

Following the news that Google's new OS will be called Android Nougat, reports are now coming in about the purported specs of this year's rumored new Nexus phones, the HTC Sailfish and the HTC Marlin.

According to the website Android Police, the next two Android phones are shaping up to be exciting sequels to the current Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. While previous reports have already revealed that HTC is making the new Nexus handsets for 2016, specific details about the HTC Sailfish and the HTC Marlin are now out as well.

While it is unclear if Sailfish and Marlin will be the actual names for the handsets or if they are merely codenames, BGR has said that the two phones will be copies of each other, with the only difference being size. According to the website, the HTC Sailfish will be smaller than the HTC Marlin.

The HTC Sailfish will be the successor to the Nexus 5X while the HTC Marlin will be the sequel to the Nexus 6P. According to BGR, this echoes Apple's style of releasing new iPhones in sets of two, with one model being bigger than the other. But while it is said that the only difference between the HTC Sailfish and the HTC Marlin is the size, iPhones usually also differ in screen size, battery size, and optical image stabilization.

According to Android Police, the HTC Marlin will feature a 5.5-inch screen with a Quad HD AMOLED display, a quad-core Qualcomm processor, and 4GB of RAM. It will have a 12MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, a USB Type-C port, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It will come with either 32GB or 128GB of internal storage.

Meanwhile, the HTC Sailfish will feature a 5-inch screen, a quad-core Qualcomm processor, 4GB of RAM, a 12MP rear camera, and an 8MP front camera. It will also have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C port. It is unknown if multiple models of the handset will be made available.

The exact release dates for the rumored HTC Sailfish and HTC Marlin have yet to be announced, but both are expected to drop before the year ends.
