'Gotham' season 3 air date, spoilers: Bullock still has Gordon's back as they round up the crazies of Indian Hill

When "Gotham" returns for its third season, everyone and everything will have been changed except for the one constant in both the show and Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) life.

In the new teaser promo released by FOX titled, "Who is Harvey Bullock?," acting captain Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) of the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) will be returning to his former, more familiar role as a hardened police detective who spends most of his days on the street hunting down the bad guys.

When GCPD captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) was fatally wounded by Azrael, the resurrected and genetically enhanced version of Theo Galavan (James Frain), Bullock took on the role of captain with reluctance driven by a deep-seated need to stay out of trouble whenever he could. But with his partner Jim on the run, and Gotham's crime rate still on a continuous rise, Harvey gradually grew into his new role.

Now that Barnes is back, Harvey is only too happy to be back out on the streets "cracking skulls." In the promo, the police detective said that while he did grow to like being GCPD's acting captain, chasing down the mad escapees from Indian Hill, who seems to have found a worthy leader in the preternaturally persuasive Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), is really more his style.

And it seems that he will still be working side by side with his former partner, Jim, who will now be taking on the new role of bounty hunter in "Gotham" season 3.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources back in August, actor McKenzie stated that Harvey will still serve as Jim's mentor and grounding force. He described the older police detective as Jim's "one conduit to sanity."

Jim and Harvey's partnership has always been a source of some of the show's most entertaining banter. It will be interesting to see how Jim's new role will affect their dynamics and interactions.

"Gotham: Mad City," the third installment in FOX's pre-Batman superhero series premieres on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. EDT.
