'Gotham' season 3 episode 5 air date and news: New promo showcases the Red Hood Gang
More madness is in store for the third season of "Gotham" subtitled "Mad City." A new promo has been leaked for the upcoming episode titled "Anything for You" and it showcases more of the Penguin (Robin Taylor) and his campaign to run for mayor, plus the appearance of the Red Hood Gang.
The clip only runs for 30 seconds, but a lot of characters appear in the next episode. It looks like Edward Nygma aka The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) is back to wreaking havoc in the Gotham City Police Department, and some people are already in on his scheme. The official synopsis is as follows:
"Crime in Gotham is at an all-time high, as Penguin struggles to uphold his promises to the city. Meanwhile, Butch goes down a dark path with the infamous Red Hood Gang and Bruce begins to investigate Ivy's whereabouts in the all-new "Mad City: Anything for You" episode of GOTHAM."
The Red Hood Gang plays a big significance in the comics when it comes to the origins of the Joker. In Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke," the gang hired The Joker to disguise himself as the Red Hood and infiltrate a chemical facility. The Batman intervened and the Joker fell into a vat of chemicals that bleached his skin and turned him insane.
Given that Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) has already died in the series, it's possible that the Red Hood Gang would find another hopeless civilian to take advantage of and he will eventually become the Joker. There are even reports of Jerome's return in the third season.
Then again, it's possible that the Red Hood Gang could have connections to a future Robin in the series. After the Joker killed Jason Todd, Todd was resurrected and he took upon the mantle of the Red Hood — but instead of being a criminal, he became a vigilante.
The next episode of "Gotham" airs on Monday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
