'Grand Theft Auto 6' release date updates: 'GTA 6' cancelled? Rockstar still silent about possible sequel
Three years since the release of the latest installment in Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto" video game franchise, the studio has yet to officially announce anything about a possible follow-up.
With various rumors circulating about the "Grand Theft Auto 6" storyline, features, and release date, another possibility is being offered up — could Rockstar's silence about "Grand Theft Auto 6" mean that no such installment will be released?
The International Business Times suggests that this may be the case and that the studio will instead focus on developing "Grand Theft Auto 5," which was released back in 2013. Earlier this month, The BitBag reported the same, suggesting that "GTA 5" is currently the priority over at Rockstar. True enough, a Bikers expansion was recently added to "Grand Theft Auto Online," the online counterpart of "GTA 5" that was launched just two weeks after the base game.
With the focus seemingly on "GTA 5" and "GTA Online," it could be many, many years before fans hear anything about a possible "Grand Theft Auto 6."
Earlier this month, the hopes of "Grand Theft Auto" fans were once again dashed when the rumored new video game was a no-show at this year's PlayStation Meeting. Prior to the annual event, speculation became rampant that Rockstar would be at the PSM and that it could perhaps reveal something about the highly anticipated "Grand Theft Auto 6."
The rumor was fueled by a post from Twitter user Tidux, who posted a guitar emoji and a star emoji with the hashtag "#PSM" prior to the 2016 PlayStation Meeting, which was held on Sept. 7. This was taken by many to mean that Rockstar Games would be at the event.
Sadly, not only was there nary a word about the next installment in the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise, but Rockstar was not even in attendance.
With Rockstar being conspicuously quiet about a potential "Grand Theft Auto 6," a release date for the eagerly anticipated "GTA" installment remains elusive.
