'Green Lantern Corps' latest news: David Goyer, Justin Rhodes currently developing script for film

David Goyer is currently on board to write the "Green Lantern Corps" script with Justin Rhodes.

According to an exclusive report by Deadline, "Green Lantern Corps'" storyline will focus on Hal Jordan and Green Lantern rookie John Stewart, a former Marine Sniper who joins the Lantern Corps.

The film will reportedly be based on a comic book origin story that was described as "Lethal Weapon" in space.

Goyer has been regularly involved in the film adaptations of DC Comics characters. He served as the head writer or the co-writer of the scripts of the "The Dark Knight" trilogy, "Man of Steel," and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." He was also the executive producer of the last film.

Aside from penning the script, it is speculated that he might direct the film, although no confirmation has been given about this so far. The Tracking Board reporter Jeff Sneider mentioned this possibility in his "Meet the Movie Press" podcast, saying: "David Goyer is responsible for this entire DC Universe, he wrote Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He wrote Man of Steel, he is the architect, if you will."

"He is writing and producing Green Lantern Corps, so it's just very well, what I have heard, one of those situations where he could be like 'Listen, I think I may be the best guy for the job, nobody knows this like I do," Sneider went on to say.

Goyer has directed four films in his career: "Zig Zag," "Blade: Trinity," "The Invisible," and "The Unborn."

No actor involved with the project has been revealed so far. However, Den of Geek reported that Tyrese Gibson is actively campaigning to be cast as John Stewart. It is unlikely that Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Hal Jordan, not only because he currently holds the role of Deadpool, a character from DC Comics' rival publisher, Marvel Comics, but also because the "Green Lantern" film he was in was critically panned and performed poorly in the box office.

It is unknown yet if a Green Lantern character will be introduced in the upcoming "Justice League" movie to drum up support for "Green Lantern Corps."
