'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers: Amelia won't be pregnant despite Caterina Scorsone's pregnancy, Jo–Alex drama to get 'explosive'
"Grey's Anatomy" star Caterina Scorsone may be pregnant in real life, but don't expect her online persona, Amelia Shepherd, to be in a similar state in ABC's long-running medical drama.
During last week's Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour, the actress revealed some major details about the upcoming "Grey's Anatomy" season 13, saying that Amelia probably won't be pregnant and that the conflict between Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) is about to get "explosive."
While fans may be expecting that having a baby together is the next step after Amelia and Owen's (Kevin McKidd) wedding in the season 12 finale, Scorsone said that she doesn't think that Amelia will have a bun in the oven just yet.
"I think they don't want to burn through all that story, but I also think that last time they wrote my pregnancy in, and I think Shonda [Rhimes] is going to give me a break on this one," Scorsone said, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly.
The actress also revealed that the upcoming season's opener will pick up right where the last season's finale left off: on the night of Amelia and Owen's wedding.
Meanwhile, the 13th season will find the conflict between Alex and Jo escalating to new heights.
"And there's a big piece of drama going on having to do with another storyline [with Alex and Jo] that I think is going to play for a while in the season," Scorsone said in an interview for EW's Spoiler Room. "It's very explosive, very exciting and interesting on social levels and personal character levels."
"It got messy for them," the actress said at the TCA press tour on Thursday, Aug. 5, adding that the situation is a "multi-layered story" that has various personal and social overtones and will be an opportunity to tackle some important issues.
The 13th season of "Grey's Anatomy" is set to premiere on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
