'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers: Arizona, Jo and Bailey head to maximum security prison; Camilla Luddington shares midseason premiere teasers
Jo's (Camilla Luddington) situation gets worse when "Grey's Anatomy" returns for the back half of season 13 next week.
According to reports, the show's midseason premiere picks up right after the winter finale, in which Jo made a huge revelation about her past. The surgical resident previously confessed to Alex (Justin Chambers) that she has an abusive husband and has been hiding her true name to escape him. On the next episode, Jo, Bailey (Chandra Wilson), and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) head to a maximum security prison to treat a female patient. While details about the mystery patient are still being kept under wraps, it was revealed that the hour will leave a lasting impression on all the physicians — especially Jo.
On other related news, Luddington is currently pregnant with her first child and is expected to give birth this spring. The actress recently spoke with TV Line, and she mentioned that the struggle of hiding her growing baby bump on screen has already begun. While Luddington's pregnancy is not written into the storyline, the actress was quick to point out that it's still possible for the character to become a mother in the near future. "We have a lot more episodes to go this season, and these things can get sprung on us at a table read, so I really can't say for sure if it will stay that way," she said.
Luddington also gave some teasers about Arizona, Jo and Bailey's visit to the prison where they will be working on a teenage patient. "Jo, Bailey and Arizona go to a prison to help a 16-year-old girl — who's serving 20-to-life — give birth," she continued. "There are some funny moments and some scary moments and some really emotional moments. It's interesting to see how they react in a place that isn't their usual [hospital] environment," the actress went on to say.
The 13th season of "Grey's Anatomy" returns on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
