'GTA 6' release date news 2016: 'GTA 6' could be out 'soon'?

The next installment in Rockstar's long-running "Grand Theft Auto" video game franchise could drop "soon," a report from Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent publisher, has revealed.

Rumors about "Grand Theft Auto 6" have been running rampant for years now, with many believing that a "GTA 6" release is imminent.

An official fiscal report released by Take-Two Interactive earlier this month mentioned an impending project, which many have taken to mean that "Grand Theft Auto 6" is about to be released.

"Rockstar Games also is hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon," the video game publisher's report said.

While Take-Two did not indicate which project/s will be out soon, the company could very well be coming out with the next chapter in the "Grand Theft Auto" series. The last installment released for "GTA" is "Grand Theft Auto 5," which came out almost three years ago.

With "GTA 5" approaching its third birthday, fans of the crime epic are understandably becoming antsy about a potential "GTA 6."

However, The Mirror notes that while the "exciting future projects" teased by Take-Two could include "GTA 6," the publisher could also be preparing to drop a sequel to "Red Dead Redemption." Given that it has been six years since that game was released, it would also make sense for Rockstar Games to finally follow it up. "Red Dead Redemption," an open world action-adventure Western-themed video game, was praised by critics and won several Game of the Year awards when it came out.

Rockstar has been conspicuously quiet about the future of "Grand Theft Auto." The last official update the studio released for the franchise was for "Grand Theft Auto Online."

Meanwhile, Trusted Reviews suggests that Rockstar is releasing "GTA 6" very soon, possibly at Gamescom 2016, which will be held in Cologne, Germany between Aug.18 and Aug. 21.

The studio has not commented on these rumors.
