'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' premiere date, cast news, spoilers: New trailer released; Gunn's favorite superhero to appear in title
A new trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" recently premiered, but before it was launched, it was announced by Dave Bautista's Drax and his noisy and annoying way of eating soup. Meanwhile, the film's director might feature one of his beloved superheroes in the title.
Directed by James Gunn, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be hitting theaters this May, and a new trailer was recently launched during a "Jimmy Kimmel Live" episode. The world premiere trailer featured the new heroes that will join the Guardians in saving the universe for the second time, such as Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Yondu (Michael Rooker).
However, before the trailer was aired, Gunn announced it by sharing a preview featuring Drax noisily eating soup, which both shocked and annoyed Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper). It certainly drew a lot of attention for the new trailer, which also featured the big reveal of who Star-Lord's father is, Ego (Kurt Russel).
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" already has a lot of new characters to introduce, but there might be one more superhero that Gunn will feature in the film.
According to a previous Twitter post, Gunn revealed that he will be adding a favorite superhero of his in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Gizmodo pointed out that Mantis had already been cast when the tweet was posted, which cancels her out as Gunn's new superhero feature.
Superhero Hype then reported that Gunn has expressed his affection for Beta Ray Bill, Starhawk, Rom Spaceknight, and Adam Warlock. However, a cocoon that looked very much like Adam Warlock's already appeared in the first installment of "Guardians of the Galaxy," which was placed in The Collector's den.
Slashfim confirmed that the cocoon ended up as one of Gunn's regrets in the film.
"I wasn't really thinking that much when I put that in. ... It looked like Adam's Warlock cocoon, so now everyone thinks he's out of there and you know. I don't know," Gunn explained. The director's statement indicates that Adam Warlock may not be the one to appear in "Vol. 2," but whoever Gunn chose to feature is being kept tightly under wraps.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" premieres on May 5.
