'Half-Life 3' release date, news, rumors: Upcoming sequel to include Kraken Base; 'Half-Life 3' will be last in series
Several years have passed since Valve released the recent "Half-Life" sequel. As the game developer company has been quiet regarding the future of their very successful video game series, many people believe that "Half-Life 2" may be the series' last title. However, the speculations have begun to arise earlier this year that there might be a third "Half-Life" installment after all. If ever this was the case, then the much-awaited "Half-Life 3" might be the one to conclude the franchise altogether.
According to Neurogadget, Valve may have already been working with the third "Half-Life" title at this moment. To note, the 20th anniversary of the release of the first "Half-Life" game title will happen in 2018. If the latest rumors are anything to go by, Valve may be planning to celebrate this by releasing a new "Half-Life" sequel during that year. Moreover, the next "Half-Life" game may come bigger than ever, catching up with the latest trends in the gaming technology. It was earlier reported that Valve signed a deal with HTC to develop today's latest VR headset, the HTC Vive. With this, the Valve and HTC partnership may also come up with a new game title having a full VR support, that being "Half-Life 3."
It is also rumored that "Half-Life 3" might be featuring a familiar setting from the previous title. Mobipicker reported that Valve will be re-introducing the Kraken Base in the upcoming sequel. This concept was first developed for "Half-Life 2," which was then cut from the original version and replaced by a train sequence in the gameplay.
The said version shows Gordon Freeman, the main character of the game, using a submarine to travel underwater to the so-called Kraken Base. From there, he is supposed to meet Dr. Helena but due to the betrayal of his allies, he ends up being trapped in the base. The gameplay will lead Gordon fighting the enemies in the Kraken Base and eventually blowing up the entire location. After the Kraken Base's destruction, Gordon will be seen emerging from the wreckage.
As of now, Valve has not yet reacted about the rumored "Half-Life" sequel coming up.
