'Half-Life 3' release date, news, updates: Valve and HTC collaborating on sequel?
A lot of fans are still expecting the release of "Half-Life 3," but there have been only few updates for the sequel. However, this does not stop fans from making speculations with what the third installment of the "Half-Life" franchise will offer. There is also a possibility that it might actually be featured in virtual reality (VR).
It was stated in reports that the developers of the game, Valve, may be keeping it under the wraps in order to surprise players with its features. The rumor actually sparked when one of the updates of "DOA 2" contained a code that says "HLVR." Fans of the game have started speculating that it might be actually an acronym for "Half-Life Virtual Reality."
This also means that the third installment may actually feature VR and it is also feasible since Valve has always had a reputation for being innovative in the gaming industry. The company was also the one conceptualized popular games such as "DOTA 2," "Team Fortress," and "Counter-Strike." There are also suggestions that the company will have a collaborative effort with HTC for the VR headset.
There are still no confirmation coming from both companies, but HTC Vive may be the headset that will be used if the rumors are actually true. There are also speculations that the latest entry of "Half-Life" may actually be separated into three episodes. This type of structure has already been done before in "Half-Life 2" where two episodes are featured.
In terms of storyline, it will be set right after the events of its predecessor and it will be situated in a Kraken base. Gamers would actually have to control a submarine in order to get there since it is located underwater. However, these rumors are yet to be confirmed once Valve has given official details about the sequel.
There is no definite release date yet for "Half-Life 3," but there are rumors that it will be launched during the 20th anniversary which is in 2018.
