'Hannibal' season 4 news: Mads Mikkelsen will try his 'best' to be part of a revival should there be one

There is something about "Hannibal" that screams "not yet done" as the supernatural series has been steadily being plagued by revival rumors fueled by the cast and crew seemingly being game about the prospect. This time, Hannibal Lecter himself, Mads Mikkelsen, shares his thoughts on the budding speculations that just maybe everyone is heading back to Minnesota.

In an exclusive sit-down with The Huffington Post while promoting his gig as Galen Erso in the first "Star Wars" anthology film, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the actor was asked about meeting Anthony Hopkins who also suited up for the role. The 78-year-old actor played the role of the serial killer in the 2001 film of the same title directed by Ridley Scott.

"I've never met Anthony Hopkins," Mikkelsen admitted. "If I did meet him, I'm sure we'd talk about something different than Hannibal. He's an icon in that part, played it to perfection, and our show was a completely different animal, so we'd probably discuss something completely different," he continued.

When asked, however, what he thinks about reprising his role as the cannibalistic scientist, Mikkelsen sounded very enthusiastic about the idea. But like everyone else who was asked about the matter, it sounds like no development whatsoever in terms of a revival is currently in movement right now.

"We had a wonderful journey with a crazy show and a fantastic showrunner. If it does come back, I'd try my very best to be part of it," the Danish actor shared.

Showrunner Bryan Fuller has been asked the same question a little bit too frequently this year. Back in summer, he initially revealed that he is indeed interested in bringing "Hannibal" back to life and even had an August 2017 rollout date. That is of course if everyone's schedules align and that no glitches come their way. But he seems to have retracted his words in a more recent interview when he said that hopefully they will have the opportunity to revisit the story, indicating that probably no significant movement in the cause has turned into fruition.

Still, he is nothing but all praise for NBC execs who gave them a good run despite poor ratings and stood by the fact that they were able to wrap the show up accordingly.

"I'm very proud of the series as it existed on NBC and I'm very grateful to NBC for keeping us on the air for three years, despite dismal ratings," he said.
