'Hawaii Five-0' season 7 spoilers, news: Showrunner hints at more stories on Steve & Catherine; teases entirely new approach in this year's cliffhanger
Despite the relationship of Lt. Comm. Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth) ending in the previous episode of "Hawaii Five-0," showrunner Peter Lenkov hints that there is still more to it in the coming episodes. As for this year's mid-season cliffhanger, the showrunner teased that it is something that has not been done on the show before.
In a recent interview with Lenkov on TV Guide, the showrunner hinted, "We're not looking at it as being finished. It's just a story we're telling along the way. .... There's fans of the show that either love [Catherine] or hate her, and they're very vocal, both sides. But we always saw Catherine being a part of the entire arc of this franchise."
However, in an earlier report by the same news source, O'Loughlin commented about their characters' break up as if it was done for good. In an earlier interview, O'Loughlin said, "It's now been finished the right way. ... [Steve] really likes Lynn. She's a great girl. ... And if he just jumped back into a relationship with Catherine, I think he's an idiot."
Every year, "Hawaii Five-0" is known to drop major mid-season finale cliffhanger leaving one of the main characters in an uncertain situation in the same way that it leaves its viewers in an endless nail-biting situation.
Since 2016 is nearly over, fans are now surely in for a mid-season finale treat. Going back to the TV Guide interview with Lenkov, the showrunner teased some details on what to expect from this year's major cliffhanger.
Lenkov teased that in episode 10, the sister of Detective Sergeant Danny "Danno" Williams (Scott Caan) will join the show. He clarified, though, that she is not into some illegal stuff. The sister just happens to be in Hawaii for a company trip. Then, Lenkov teased that fans will get to see some drama-filled scenes of Danny and his sister to be played by Missy Peregrym.
Meanwhile, as for their 2016 cliffhanger, Lenkov teased, "We're building to a pretty big midseason finale cliffhanger in Episode 11. We've never really done that, by the way, sort of end on a cliffhanger midseason. So we're trying that this year."
When asked who will be mainly involved in this year's mid-season cliffhanger, Lenkov directly answered Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim).
"Hawaii Five-0" airs every Friday, at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
