The 17-year-old Hollywood Film Awards will be airing on CBS on Nov. 14 as a two-hour special. While there are currently more than enough Hollywood awards, Jack Sussman, CBS executive, believes that "it can use a show that has credibility and kicks off the awards season."

What makes the Hollywood Film Awards different from other award bodies is that there are no nominees here. Winners are chosen by an undisclosed committee.

According to Variety, the winners are selected by their "HFA Advisory Selection Team," one that includes TV executives and film industry experts. The awards production team does not disclose the members of the "Selection Team" in order to "protect their privacy." They are invited and selected by Carlos de Abreu, HFA Founder.

Awards are held almost all throughout the year, but shifts into high gear during the first months. Some of the most prestigious ones include the Grammys, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Oscars.

At the forefront of the awards is Queen Latifah, who will be hosting the show. It is produced by the same production team that handles the Golden Globes.

Awards will be presented in 18 categories, which include blockbuster of the year, comedy of the year, breakthrough director and acting ensemble.

The awards show already announced the first winners last week, which was bagged by "Birdman," and production design category won by "Maleficent."

As to the awards show becoming an annual event, we have yet to find out.

Sussman, however, has his hopes held high. "You have to go into these kinds of shows thinking that you're in it for the long haul," he said. "So you hope to launch it in a way that you stay in business with it."
