Showtime subscribers were given a special treat before the end of 2016, when the network released the premiere episode of "Homeland" season 6.

The highly anticipated return of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) in action debuted 17 days earlier than expected. It revealed that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent will find herself involved in another terrorism case as she starts to work for an organization that offers aid to Muslims living in the United States.

The new season of "Homeland" will also cover the after-effects of the fictional U.S. presidential election, which ended with a female president for the first time in history. This means that the entire season will be filled with a lot of conflict and complicated transfer of power between the outgoing and incoming administrations.

Aside from the terror threats in the country, Carrie is also expected to deal with her daughter Frannie's growing curiosity about her late father Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis).

In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Chip Johannessen teased that they will finally deal with Frannie's daddy issues in "Homeland" season 6.

"One thing that surfaces this season is the question of who her father was," Johannessen stated. "I actually just got done writing a scene for Episode 9 that serves as kind of a follow-up to a monologue [Carrie delivered to Frannie] in Season 4, in which she got her up to speed on who her father was."

The executive producer also claimed that Carrie's capacity as a mother will also be tackled in the upcoming season of "Homeland," especially since Frannie is already growing up.

Also, fans of the espionage drama series will also find out what happened to Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend). In the previous season, Quinn's life was endangered under the hands of the terrorist.

The regular run of "Homeland" season 7 will begin on Showtime on Sunday, Jan. 15.
