Netflix finally announced a premiere date for the much anticipated fifth season of "House of Cards," along with a chilling teaser featuring the Underwoods.

The streaming giant released an ominous promo clip last Friday, revealing the show's May release date. In the short video, an upside down American flag can be seen hanging in front of the Capitol Building. A children's chorus reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is heard in the background as the flag continues to flap in the wind.

The clip also hints that Claire (Robin Wright) and her husband, Frank (Kevin Spacey), are certainly going to keep their promise of bringing the terror this coming season. For the uninitiated, season 4 left off with the show's fictional president saying: "We make the terror." The announcement, which was first made through the official "House of Cards" Twitter handle, came hours before Donald Trump is scheduled to be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.

Recent reports point out that Netflix could be making a political statement. However, while the Inauguration Day timing is no accident, some fans believe that the announcement was just a smart way of promoting the series to attract attention on a momentous day when a divided nation swears in a new leader.

Details about the upcoming season are still being kept under wraps, but there are speculations that the storyline will focus on Claire's rise to power. Rumor has it that the series may end this season, which could mean that the new installment will center on Frank's downfall. It was previously reported that a spinoff drama focusing on women in politics is being developed, but Netflix still hasn't confirmed whether the rumors are true or not.

"House of Cards" season 5 will be released in its entirety on Tuesday, May 30 on Netflix.
