Houston Rockets trade rumors update: Rockets in jam with Motiejunas
In one of the more baffling news this summer, the future of Donatas Motiejunas is still up in the air. Many thought that the Rockets would hold on to Motiejunas for a long time because he possesses an appealing skill set for any team.
Coming into the league in the 2012-13 season, Motiejunas performed his best during his third season. He averaged 12 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He was also very impressive from beyond the arc as he converted 37 percent of his shots from the three-point range.
However, in the succeeding year, he only played 37 games. His output dropped to 6.2 points per game and only 44 percent from the field.
Now, Motiejunas is without a contract as his deal expired at the end of last season. During that time, he earned $2.2 million which is the biggest in his career and everyone thought that he would get a re-shaped deal for the coming seasons.
Unfortunately, he is still without a deal and talks are quickly going south.
This boils down to what Motiejunas thinks he is worth as a player and what the Rockets are open to giving him.
Motiejunas is a restricted free agent which means the Rockets can match any offer that other teams give the big man. However, the player's agent, BJ Armstrong, believes that the team is using the rules to their advantage and it is resulting in the stalemate they are currently in.
Furthermore, it is believed that the Rockets are not giving importance to Motiejunas despite the fact that he stands to be the team's starting center in the coming season.
The saga continues to roll out and it may be far from over. It is interesting to see how things turn out for the Rockets and whether Motiejunas would play for a new team when the new season rolls in.
