So, one of the biggest reveals and literally jaw-dropping moments of the season has finally come. And it was a painful affair for viewers and to the series creator as well.

2016 has been a roller coaster year and "How to Get Away with Murder" fans are not having it either. Their favorite Wes Gibbins a.k.a. Waitlist (Alfred Enoch) is dead. Unbelievably, the center of the series' plot, next to Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), is the cold body under the sheets.

There is a catch, though, as Wes is being examined post-mortem, Nate Lahey (Billy Brown) comes in and asks the doctor for the "unofficial" cause of death. Then, Nate goes to Annalise in jail and revealed that Wes had been dead even before the fire.

Alfred Enoch always speculated that Wes will be killed

After the episode aired, Enoch was interviewed by Variety in which he revealed that it was equally shocking to the cast as it had been to the viewers. But he admitted that at the early stages of filming season 3, he always had a hunch that Wes is a good option to be killed.

Enoch told Variety, "It's something that we've been dealing with awhile and known for about a month and a half, and it's something we had to deal with first season when Rebecca died. It's a difficult thing to lose one in the family." Enoch was positive, though, that Wes did not kill himself.

When asked whether or not Wes is, indeed, the father of Laurel Castillo's (Karla Souza) baby, the actor did not give a direct answer and just said, "I can say that it will become apparent in the first episode back. Beyond that, I wouldn't want to ruin that for anyone."

Pete Nowalk on deciding to kill Wes

Meanwhile, writer and creator of "How to Get Away with Murder" Pete Nowalk confirms with TV Guide that, unfortunately, Wes is "really dead." Nowalk added, "It was obviously a really painful decision for me. When I started writing the pilot, he was the first character that came to mind and was sort of my eyes and ears into the whole show."

To make fans feel better, Enoch and Nowalk both promised that Wes will still be in the other half of the season. After all, viewers will still need to find out how he died and who killed him.

"How to Get Away with Murder" season 3 airs every Thursday, at 10 p.m. on ABC.
