The release date "How to Train Your Dragon 3" has been pushed back several times, but it has been finalized that the film will have a 2019 release date. Meanwhile, the film might feature an ending that will see the Vikings and dragons part ways.

"How to Train Your Dragon 3" was initially slated for a 2018 premiere, but due to a new development schedule from Comcast — which took over Dreamworks Animation — the film has been moved to a March 2019 release date, Screenrant reports.

The film will still be directed by Dean DeBlois, and it might see a storyline that brings the Vikings and their dragons to part ways.

The logline posted on Deadline reads, "As Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) fulfills his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless' discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup's reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind."

Although the logline does not reveal much about Hiccup parting ways with Toothless, DeBlois shared with Collider at the 2015 Visual Effects Society Awards that "How to Train Your Dragon 3" will lead up to the beginning storyline of Cressida Cowell's book series.

"We're gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away," DeBlois revealed.

DeBlois also said that Hiccup will have to stand on his own at some point and that he and Toothless will have to make a decision on what's better for their own kinds. The director added that he will save the mystery of dragons possibly coming back and the reason why they would do so for the film itself.

"How to Train Your Dragon 3" is set to premiere on March 1, 2019.
