Huawei Mate 9 release date, news, specs rumors: Upcoming Huawei handset to have flat and curved screen variants, to be released on Nov. 3?
Contrary to earlier rumors, it is now expected that the Huawei Mate 9 will be unveiled at an earlier date this November. Instead of a November 8 release date, Huawei is reported to showcase the next Mate handset at their upcoming press event on Nov. 3. The last model, Huawei Mate 8, has proven to be a hit among this generation's consumers with its impressive features and sophisticated design, so it will be interesting to see how Huawei will step up further with the next iteration.
According to Android Headlines, the Chinese multinational tech giant will hold a special press event in Munich, Germany on November 3 to unveil the much-awaited successor of the Huawei Mate 8. To impress the tech enthusiasts with its latest device offering, Huawei is reported to release a special Mate 9 variant with a dual-edged screen display. There have been only a few smartphones in the market today having a curved screen design, one being the latest Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Venture Beat reported that the Huawei Mate 9's curved screen variant is codenamed as Long Island. On the other hand, the regular flat screen variant is called the Manhattan. Even though the two variants have different screen design, both Manhattan and Long Island will be around 5.9 inches in screen length.
As the Long Island variant of Huawei Mate 9 has a dual-edged curved screen feature, it is expected to receive premium screen resolution and specs. It will sport a quad HD resolution that is a requirement for the handset to support the Android Nougat's latest Daydream VR feature. The screen feature of Manhattan Mate 9 with its regular flat design is also impressive with its full HD resolution support.
Both Long Island and Manhattan will be powered by bit octa-core processor of HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipset, with each expected to have three variants differing in internal storage and RAM capacity. Specifically, the 64 GB storage variant will have 4 GB RAM, while both the 128 GB and 256 GB storage variants will have 6 GB RAM.
As for the Mate 9's camera features, the handset is expected to carry the dual lens Leica rear cameras measuring 20 MP and 12 MP with a dual LED flash. The front or selfie camera will be around 8 MP.
According to Yibada, the dual-edged screen variant of the Huawei Mate 9 will be first released in China, and its possible release in the other parts of the world like the United States is still unknown. Huawei has not yet confirmed the price range of the Mate 9, but the rumors suggest that the device will have a starting price of $500.
