Indiana Pacers roster news: Paul George wants to win MVP
One of the best players in the league at the moment, the Indiana Pacers' Paul George, is looking to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award by the end of the 2016–17 season.
The Pacers' star is coming into the seventh season in his professional career and at 26 years old, he may be at his best.
More importantly, George believes that he is the best, and FanSided reported that he wants to win the MVP award as he leads the Pacers.
George has gone through multiple adversities in the past. He was overlooked in the 2010 NBA Draft as he dropped to the 10th spot before being picked by the Pacers. He also had a severe leg injury as he was practicing with Team USA which many believed could have ended his professional career.
However, he has bounced back and the 2015–16 season was his best yet as he averaged 23.1 points per game while shooting 42 percent from the field.
Now, with a new team and new goals set, George wants to win an award for his own — the MVP.
During an interview on Sirius XM Radio, George unveiled his plans for the season, saying: "I definitely want to be MVP this year. It's tough. As always, it would be a challenge. But with coach Nate and the guys that I've got here, I'm in a position to move into that spot. As long as I remain being me, being a leader, being aggressive, and wanting that. It's not mine for the taking. I've gotta go get it. And this is my year to go get it."
It is extremely tough to bet against George given the things he has already overcome. He now has a target in sight and can easily elevate the game of the players around him as he tries to accomplish his goal.
Watching the Pacers' play will now draw even more attention as George should be pressing to become the best.
