Intel made a mark at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 when it unveiled the Compute Card, which users can carry inside their pocket. The small PC is just as small as a credit card, but it has a lot of features for technology-hungry enthusiasts.

Intel Compute Card should never be underestimated as it is equipped with the seventh-generation Kaby Lake processor, wireless connectivity and even input/output options. There is another variant available called "USB-C plus extension," which can connect to different systems.

The minute PC has the ability to enhance the capability of internet of things (IoT) by allowing more devices to connect to it. Compute Card has all the functions of a computer with its own random-access memory (RAM), Bluetooth and can deliver complex computing necessities.

"Intel is creating a transformative new product category — bringing the power of computing and connectivity to virtually any product, anywhere," Intel wrote on its website.

"[The] Intel® Compute Card possesses an elegantly simple and portable design, making it easy to install, maintain, and upgrade independently of the partner certified device," the company added.

Using the Compute Card, however, may necessitate an upgrade of devices to connect to it. As for the device manufacturers, they can conveniently create a standard slot for the device. Once achieved, their consumers can readily use the card instead of their usual controller.

For example, a smart refrigerator's processing hardware may need to be upgraded so as to accommodate the card. This is better than purchasing an entirely new smart refrigerator just to use the Compute Card.

Compute Card, according to Tech News, is important to make the devices upgradable. Such devices include all-in-one (AIO) PCs and smart TVs, among others. Intel has successfully partnered with several companies like Sharp, Lenovo, HP, Dell and others, to make Compute Card happen.

Intel Compute Card is slated to have a mid-2017 release, though the company has not announced any specific date yet. It is expected that more details will be confirmed before the PC's launch.
