'Into the Badlands' season 2 air date, latest news: AMC releases first trailer for season 2; martial arts series set to return on March 19
AMC recently announced the release date of "Into the Badlands" season 2, along with a full trailer to promote the series.
It can be recalled that at the end of season 1, Sunny (Daniel Wu) was held prisoner by the River King. As seen in the show's full season 2 full trailer, the upcoming season will see Sunny being sold into slavery. He will be working in a mining camp with Bajie (Nick Frost). Frost is seen getting into action, defeating a couple of foes with his nunchucks.
The trailer also features The Widow (Emily Beecham), who successfully clears a path through a surge of enemies. Waldo (Stephen Lang), also appears in the trailer, and he has shifted his allegiances to become a part of The Widow's team, which includes M.K. (Aramis Knight) and Tilda (Ally Ioannides).
Aside from the mentioned actors, "Into the Badlands" also stars Oliver Starck, Madeliene Mantock, and Orla Brady. The series was created by showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, who both also serve as the show's executive producers and writers. Director David Dobkin, fight director Stephen Fung, Stace Sher, Michael Shamberg, and Wu also serve as executive producers.
According to Den of Geek, although the critical reception of the first season of "Into the Badlands" has been lukewarm, the series earned enough merits as a martial arts TV show and hauled solid ratings for AMC to order a second season. Season 1 is considered as the third-highest rated debut season in cable history, and it averaged 5.6 million viewers per episode.
In an interview with Empire, Gough shared his excitement for the upcoming season and what viewers can expect from the TV show. The showrunner said: "We are so excited about season two. We take the audience deeper into the Badlands and really open up the world. Our characters will meet new barons, new threats and new allies as their journey continues....including Nick Frost, who is absolutely brilliant. His mix of humor and humanity make the show soar as much as any martial arts move. And he kicks ass as well!"
The second season of "Into the Badlands" is scheduled to premiere on March 19 at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
