Apple released the first beta of iOS 8.1.1 to developers on Monday for testing.

After the initial release of iOS 8 on Sept. 17, Apple quickly released a follow-up with iOS 8.0.1 a week later due to technical problems. The iOS 8.0.1 update, however, disabled the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and also resulted in problems in connecting to cell networks.

The iOS 8.0.2 update was subsequently released to fix problems and improve the features, but resulted in problems with Bluetooth connectivity among other things.

Following that, Apple ultimately released the iOS 8.1 on Oct. 20 with better bug fixes that corrected the Bluetooth problem and other glitches. It also introduced the new Apple Pay feature for mobile and online payments, an SMS Continuity to Yosemite and iCloud Photo Library Beta.

Apple is planning the release of an iOS 8.1.1 update and has decided to seek help by sending it out to developers.

iOS 8.1.1, classified as build 12B432, is not meant to be a major update as Apple is also working on an iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3. Apple's release notes claimed that the iOS 8.1.1 is set to bring improved performances specifically for older devices that are running the iOS 8.

"This release includes bug fixes, increased stability and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s," Apple's release notes stated.

The upcoming iOS 8.1.1 is also set to fix errors with Health app introduced in iOS 8. The display of blood glucose data on the app has been temporarily disabled as Apple works to improve the app's compatibility with devices that display the metric in mmol/L.

The Health app currently does not allow users to input data using the mmol/L measurement so Apple plans to remove it to avoid confusion.

Apple also released an Apple TV beta update and an OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 beta to developers.
