iPad Air 3 release date news update: Apple to discontinue series?
It's been awhile since Apple launched the latest installment of the iPad Air series, the iPad Air 2. So far, the Cupertino-based tech giant has not expressed any plans for the tablet line. Hence, recent rumors suggested that the company might be discontinuing the series.
At the Apple "Hello again" event, which was held last Oct. 27, the company went on with business without mentioning the fate of the iPad Air series. Previous speculations suggested that the tech giant will launch a new iPad Air on the said event; however, the series wasn't even mentioned.
On the other hand, some weren't surprised by this since reports before the said event claimed that Apple will be focusing on MacBooks.
The iPad Air 2 was released in 2014. Since then, Apple has yet to reveal any concrete details about the series. According to Engadget, the iPad Air's future doesn't seem promising, especially now that the Apple has a new line of tablets, the iPad Pro.
Instead of launching an iPad Air 3, Apple introduced the iPad Pro and the iPad mini 4. Earlier this year, the company launched the second device for the Pro series, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
Given the success of the iPad Pro, Engadget believed that Apple could be slowly phasing out the iPad Mini. Moreover, the news outlet reported that selling the latest iPad Pros is a better strategy for the company, since the tablets basically contain the same features as the iPad Air devices at a higher price.
If the company will launch an iPad Air 3, it might be unveiled next year, since there are no more scheduled Apple events for 2016.
Since Apple has yet to confirm its plan to discontinue the iPad Air, tech junkies should treat the latest reports as speculation until proven otherwise.
