iPhone 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S5 Comparison: Specs, Features Review - Apple Wins With Better Design, Fingerprint Sensor
The iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S5 are both solid devices when it comes to specs, but Apple's phone still manages to beat its bigger rival as it has a more impressive design and better fingerprint sensor.
The iPhone 6, as with all Apple products, has premium design elements such as an aluminum back panel and rounded corners and edges. Added to this is its superior fingerprint sensor. In comparison, the Galaxy S5 has a plastic back panel with dimples on it and faux metal edges. Its biggest advantage though is that it is waterproof.
As for their displays, the iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of a 750 x 1334 pixels and a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. The Galaxy S5, on the other hand, has a bigger 5.1-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 432 pixels per inch. As the size of both handsets has improved over their earlier versions, they now have technology that allows for the screen to be shrunk for one-handed use.
Coming to their platforms, there is little to compare in terms of their operating systems as iPhone 6 comes with iOS 8 while the Galaxy S5 has Android KitKat. The iPhone 6 has the Apple A8 chipset along with a Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone CPU and PowerVR GX6450 GPU. The Galaxy S5, on the other hand, has the Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset, along with a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU.
In terms of a microSD slot, the iPhone 6 does not have one while the Galaxy S5 has one that can be used to add external memory of up to 128 GB.
Comparing their cameras, the 8 megapixel camera on the iPhone 6 performs better than the 18 megapixel camera on the Galaxy S5 as it provides subtle differences in color in various lighting conditions.
Finally in terms of price, both the starting versions of the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5 can be purchased at $199 with a two-year contract.
