iPhone 8 release date, news, specs rumors: Apple and Sharp team up to give next iPhone an all-new OLED screen
Fresh from last September's iPhone 7 reveal, rumors have started to circulate all over the internet regarding the Apple flagship's next iteration expected to be released next year. One cannot expect that Apple will have something to say about the iPhone 8 when the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 smartphones are only a few weeks old. However, the rumors are rife that the Cupertino-based tech giant is shaping up the iPhone 8 as something that the public has never seen before in an iPhone device.
According to the latest reports, the iPhone 8 will be a very special device offering from Apple as part of the iPhone's tenth year anniversary. 2017 marks the tenth year since Apple released the first iPhone, and the iPhone 8 is about to shake things up a decade later. One of the things that the iPhone followers must watch out for is the handset switching to a full OLED screen display.
In fact, the Deccan Chronicle reported that Apple has signed a deal with Sharp to make the iPhone 8's OLED screen panel happen. This partnership also suggests that Apple's future devices for next year, like the iPad Mini 5 and iPad Pro 2, will also sport OLED screen display.
Moreover, Apple may also use Sharp's latest Free-Form Display technology in developing the iPhone 8's OLED panel, allowing the screen to be shaped differently and give way to a curved appearance. If ever, the iPhone 8 will be the first in the flagship line to sport such curved edge design. Forbes reported that the iPhone 8's OLED screen will have Touch ID sensor, consequently removing the iPhone's home button.
As for BGR, the iPhone 8 may have a unique design with a front side having large spaces at the top and bottom part of the handset. This unique screen design is intended to expand the screen area and allow more contents to be added. Aside from a revamped home button, the extra wide screen may feature new sensors, speaker, and front or selfie camera. Just like its direct predecessor, the public will not see the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack with the iPhone 8.
