With the release of iPod Touch 6G having skipped 2014, the planned date for the much-talked, much-awaited debut of the sixth-generation Apple's iPod Touch model has now been set for March this year, along with the iWatch, Apple's first real wearable, according to reports.

The release was delayed from the original date set in October last year as Apple wanted to spotlight its new iPhone models – iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 – as well as the recently launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple also launched last year its latest operating system iOS8 which was packed with major updates and apps for daily use. One of iOS 8 features that would be available for iPod Touch 6G, as well as for iPads (Mini 3 and Air 2), is the Touch ID fingerprint technology, Apple's recognition tool for security and convenience.

The tech-savvy world awaits the forthcoming iPod Touch 6G release, which is expected to generate higher sales and demands for Apple-made smartphones once again. Citing Yahoo research firm, Flurry, Apple said it dominated 51 percent of global activated devices during the recent holidays, with Samsung coming in second at 18 percent, Microsoft's Nokia at 5.8 percent, Sony at 1.6 percent and LG at 1.4 percent.

The first four generations of the iPod Touch were usually released in September, with the first device released in 2007. The fifth-gen came out in October 2012 after a two-year wait.

iPod Touch 6G reportedly mimics the features and technologies found in iPhone 6. And it offers more, including highly advanced and higher screen resolution with retina display, dual-core A5 processor, radio app, large storage options, Apple Pay and Touch ID, and a likely A9 processor. Apple may keep the six vibrant colors, with personalized laser engravings, of iPod Touch 5, which attract the youth market.

Apple Pay is a mobile payment service allowing users to pay at participating stores with securely stored credit card information, usingTouch ID as well as Near Field Communication (NFC) to communicate with special store kiosks.
