'Iron Fist' release date and rumors: Jon Bernthal's Punisher to appear?
A lot of fans are expecting some cool things at the New York Comic-Con (NYCC), and the event just announced that the it will feature an appearance from Jon Bernthal aka Netflix's Punisher. The content of the post also led fans to believe that Bernthal may be working on the upcoming Marvel series, "Iron Fist."
The post from the NYCC Twitter page said that Bernthal's schedule was changed due to his Netflix production schedule. Now, Bernthal is only set for an appearance on Saturday and Sunday.
Some fansspeculated that the "Netflix production" he is working on is the "Iron Fist" series. There has been news of Netflix planning to make a solo "Punisher" series but it is slated to come out after 2017. Thus, it is not currently in the works.
The only Netflix series that is in production right now is "Iron Fist," so some speculated that Bernthal will be making an appearance in the series. Fans said that the reason for a cameo by Frank Castle could be because Iron Fist (Finn Jones) is not the most popular hero in the Marvel Universe. A guesting by the more popular Punisher may bring some more viewers in.
Bernthal made his debut as the Punisher in the second season of "Daredevil" this year. His performance garnered praise from critics and a lot of people are waiting to see more of the unapologetic Frank Castle.
Marvel Netflix shows that are slated to come out next year include "Iron Fist" and "The Defenders." Though an appearance from Bernthal in "Defenders" is more likely, it's reported that the show hasn't even started shooting yet.
Then again, Bernthal could be working on a Netflix show that isn't Marvel-related. Only time will tell.
"Iron Fist" is set to air sometime next year.
