Jennifer Aniston says she's not pregnant: 'What I am is fed up'
Jennifer Aniston, whose personal life has been tabloid fodder for decades, has spoken up about the pregnancy rumors surrounding her for the nth time since she became a Hollywood superstar.
On Tuesday, July 12, the actress made an exception to her rule of not addressing gossip and answered the rumors once and for all.
"For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up," she wrote in a scathing blog post for The Huffington Post. "I'm fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of 'journalism,' the 'First Amendment,' and 'celebrity news.'"
Aniston spoke about the paparazzi and the tabloids, saying that the stalking she and her husband, Justin Theroux, have to deal with on a daily basis endangers not only them but also innocent pedestrians who happen to get in the way of the unscrupulous photographers.
The actress also critiqued the way mainstream media judges a woman's worth and the way women often have to defend their choice to opt out of marriage and family life. According to Aniston, who hoped to broaden the conversation about society's views on women, the ridiculous amount of resources being spent just to find out whether or not she is pregnant is a symptom of the unfair notion that those who veer away from the married-with-children lifestyle are somehow unhappy or incomplete.
"Here's where I come out on this topic: we are complete with or without a mate, with or without a child," she wrote. "We get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies."
Aniston also said that should she someday become a mother, she will be the first to let people know.
After Aniston's post was published, several of her fellow Hollywood actresses came out in support.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, "Ghostbusters" star Melissa McCarthy said that she agrees with the actress "one hundred thousand billion percent."
Olivia Wilde, Nikki Reed, Anna Paquin, and Margaret Cho, among others, took to Twitter to commend her article and share it with followers.
