Jennifer Lawrence New Movies 2015: To Star in Steven Spielberg War Biopic 'It's What I Do'
Warner Bros has apparently sealed the deal to film "It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love And War," based on the memoir of Pulitzer Prize-winning war photographer/journalist Lynsey Addario. With Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role, the movie will be directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Andrew Lazar.
Warner Bros secured the deal for the film rights following a bidding war with three interested parties – Darren Aronofsky who wanted the lead role for Natalie Portman, Working Title Films which wanted the role for Reese Witherspoon, and the Weinsteins who were trying to get the deal for George Clooney and Grant Heslov.
The plot tells the story of a woman who goes into war zones in search of truth. Addario traveled to Afghanistan right after the 9/11 attacks in the U.S. on 2001. She attracted attention by giving an identity to the people who were involved in the conflict. In her work, she showed the sufferings of Afghans during the Taliban regime, the brutality of the Iraq war, the genocide in Darfur, and the rape of women in the Congo. She was kidnapped by the forces of Col. Moammar Khadafy during the Libyan civil war.
The memoir was excerpted by The New York Times Magazine and was just released in February. Although the bidders all have formidable actresses and backing, it seemed the combination of Warner Bros, Jennifer Lawrence and Steven Spielberg spelled the difference. Lawrence, 24, will play Addario in the movie, which starts right after the 9/11 conflict when she was only 27. She is now 41. It would be interesting to see how Lawrence will tackle this role, although it has been proven that she has the acting chops to pull it off.
No date has been set to start filming. Lawrence is currently filming "Joy," directed by Silver Linings Playbook's David O. Russel, and will be seen later this year in "Hunger Games: The Mockingjay – Part 2." She has also been booked to star in "X-Men: Apocalypse," which is slated for a May 2016 release.
