Jeremy Lin is game time decision for the Brooklyn Nets as the team faces Orlando Magic tonight
What started to be a hopeful season for the Brooklyn Nets, fueled by the addition of their new main point guard, Jeremy Lin, is shaping up to be a nightmare as the player once again gets sidelined after only a game back in action. Now, it is back to a day-to-day basis in terms of when he can finally be fielded again by Coach Kenny Atkinson.
Lin, who was sidelined for 17 straight games due to a pulled hamstring in early November, was eventually given the green light to play against the Houston Rockets last Monday. He then played 20 minutes until he was forced to be benched again due to back spasms this time. The game was lost but critics praised the Eastern team for a job well done giving the Rockets a down to the wire dog match. Fans, on the other hand, could only ponder on the possibilities if Lin played the whole game as the Nets were plus 17 points when he was on the court and minus 21 when he was not.
The team did not have time to lick their wounds as with just one day in between games, the Nets was back on spotlight against the LA Lakers. They were, fortunately, able to tidy up with a win but noticeably with Lin not seeing any action. As it turns out, he is once again back to being observed with the decision to play in today's match against the Orlando Magic still in limbo.
Still, Lin is being optimistic about his chances of suiting up. The 28-year-old told News Day that the back tightness that he had suffered is not really a cause for concern as he does not think it is "anything seriously long term." Despite this, he could not give any promises as of yet that he will play game maker for the Nets tonight needless to say if he is called out, he will be ready to perform and contribute.
"Some of the stuff, in terms of my feel for the game, it didn't feel like I was gone for that long," Lin explained. "I felt the rhythm. Free throws or coming down and shooting certain shots or even just an open shoot-and-catch three, it feels so different in a game environment. You know, you have opponents running at you. So it was more of that stuff than the overall feel and control of the game. Running plays and going up and down in transition, that stuff is fine."
The Brooklyn Nets' game against the Orlando Magic tonight is at the Amway Center in Orlando. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. ET.
