'John Wick 2' news: Sequel will have more action; 'John Wick 3' already in development
The cast and crew of "John Wick 2" were at the New York Comic Con over the weekend to promote the highly anticipated second film in the neo-noir action thriller film series.
"John Wick" star Keanu Reeves was on stage alongside director Chad Stahelski, producer Basil Iwanyk, screenwriter Derek Kolstad, costar Ian McShane, and franchise newbie Common.
The main actor led the "John Wick: Chapter 2" panel in revealing several juicy plot details, character backgrounds, and new footage from the upcoming film.
Common, who plays a villain in the film, previewed his as-yet-unnamed character. "My character is not necessarily a villain, but..." he offered. Reeves finished the sentence for him, adding, "We have a disagreement... we have different points of view."
During the panel, Reeves confirmed that Common's character, the head of security for a female crime lord, is part of the Continental, the hotel that serves as a haven for criminals and assassins.
"It's an assassin's love story," Common said about the relationship between his character and John Wick.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stahelski revealed that the upcoming sequel will feature much more action than the original did.
"I would say we had twice as much action as the first movie," he said. "We took it all a full notch up as far as the driving car stuff went." According to the "John Wick 2" director, Reeves — and not a stunt double — was in much of the car chase in the opening of the film, which was, he said, "very impressive."
Though there are still around four months to go before "John Wick 2" hits theaters, Stahelski revealed that a third film is already in the works.
Speaking with Collider, the director confirmed that Lionsgate expressed interest in completing the "John Wick" trilogy and that the studio has asked him to begin developing "John Wick 3."
"The studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something," he said. "Winston's [McShane] is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We've got some ideas."
"John Wick: Chapter 2" hits theaters Feb. 10, 2017.
