Kate Beckinsale Returns as Vampire Selena for 5th Time in 'Underworld: Next Generation'
Kate Beckinsale will return to the screen as vampire Selena in the fifth instalment of the "Underworld" franchise, entitled "Underworld: Next Generation."
Beckinsale will star alongside "Divergent" star Theo James, who will reprise his role as David in the last movie "Underworld: Awakening" in 2012. The first "Underworld" movie was shown in 2003, followed by "Underworld: Evolution" in 2006 and "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" in 2009.
Corey Goodman wrote the script. The movie is about "a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are locked in a seemingly never-ending battle between supernatural races," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Anna Foerster will be the franchise's first woman director. Foerster is best known for directing multiple episodes of "Outlander" and for serving as director of photography on "Day After Tomorrow" and "White House Down."
The film will reportedly start shooting in Prague in October.
Beckinsale celebrated her signing on to do "Underworld 5" by having dinner at the celebrity hotspot Craig's in West Hollywood on Friday. Noticeably absent was the SAG Award nominee's husband Len Wiseman, who directed her in three movies—"Underworld," "Underworld: Evolution," and "Total Recall." They just celebrated their 11th year wedding anniversary last May 9.
Beckinsale has several movies that will be shown before "Underworld: Next Generation," the first being the Amanda Knox-inspired drama "Face of an Angel," where she will play reporter Simone Ford, to be released this June. She co-stars with Daniel Bruhl and Cara Delevingne. She will also be in Relativity's supernatural thriller "The Disappointments Room" and the Jane Austen adaptation "Love and Friendship" opposite Chloe Sevigny and Xavier Samuel. Both films are currently in post-production.
