Kelli Garner has landed the role of Marilyn Monroe in the Lifetime series that is set to air in 2015.

The four-hour series titled "Marilyn" is based on the book "The Secret Life Of Marilyn Monroe" written by J. Randy Taraborrelli.

Garner is the latest actress to portray Monroe whose life and tragic death have been well covered in many TV shows and movies. Actresses who have played Monroe included Megan Hilty, Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino.

In the series, Garner will portray the glamorous public life of Monroe and the secretive side which saw her struggling to deal with the problems left her by her mother. Deadline notes that Monroe "loves, hates and wants to save her mother." Monroe's mother Gladys Mortenson will be played by Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon.

Garner has been in several TV shows and movies. In 2012 she starred in the series "Pan Am" which aired for a single season comprising of 14 episodes. In the series, Garner played the role of Catherine Cameron.

She has since then appeared in the Daniel Radcliff starrer "Horns." Among the other films included in Garner's credits are "The Aviator" and "Lars and the Real Girl."

In a statement announcing the mini-series, Lifetime noted that it would deal with Monroe's marriages to Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller, both of which ended in divorce.

After this period Monroe will come to the conclusion that she has the strength to stand on her own and not seek approval from men. She also realizes that she is not as fragile that she likes to believe and she doesn't need men to protect her.

Lifetime's statement also notes that "Marilyn was the personification of sex in her day and time." But ironically, her first marriage ended because of her frigid nature. The series will also deal with how Monroe ended up being the "voice and face" of a generation. The statement also adds that her greatest performance was her own life because she created and lived behind an image that masked the truth.
