This year's top torrent resource site, KickassTorrents, was successfully seized by the United States Federal Government, following the arrest of its alleged founder last July. Since then, the website is no longer functional, forcing online users all over the world to switch to the second best alternative to support their file sharing needs.

There are still other torrent websites that are up and running on the internet today, but many people could not help but search for possible surviving KickassTorrents mirror sites and proxy servers, which may still be used to download different types of files. Fortunately, a new KAT website has surfaced recently that contains the exact appearance and database of the original Kickass Torrents website.

As reported by Yibada, the new KAT website, katcr.to, seems to be a mirror site of the original KAT website that has yet to be shut down by the authorities. Over the past few weeks, the authorities have started to search for other KAT websites that are still functioning. They have taken down several KAT mirror and proxy sites, and as of writing, katcr.to is still operational.

The said KAT website has seen an increase in traffic, although other people still worry that the katcr.to could be another fake KAT website. To note, there are also websites pretending to be legitimate KickassTorrents mirror sites but are actually fake. One major characteristic of a fake spam site disguised as a KAT website is when it asks people's personal information, most especially their bank and credit card details. This is most likely a scam that only aims to steal money from people's bank accounts.

Meanwhile, The Pirate Bay and Extra Torrents are proven to be the best alternatives after the Kickass Torrents shutdown. According to Game N Guide, the two torrent websites experienced a surge in traffic since July when KAT was taken down completely. Particularly, The Pirate Bay emerged as the top choice of online users for their torrent needs after KAT disappeared. As for Extra Torrents, the website now gets an average of 30 million unique visits per day.
