The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 from Amazon is providing a stiff challenge to other tablets released in 2014. One of these tablets is the Nexus 9 from Motorola. Here is how the two tablets compare.
Design
When it comes to the tablets' design, both are mostly made from plastic. The Fire HDX comes with a full plastic body with a matte coating and its back panel is thicker towards the middle and tapers out towards the sides. As for the Nexus 9 it has a plastic back panel and body but has a premium look and feel, thanks to its metal ridge along its edge. However, when it comes to color options the Nexus 9 comes out in front as it has three: sand, black and white. The Fire HDX only comes in black.
Display
Both devices have similar sized displays. The Fire HDX has an IPS LCD screen measuring 8.9 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a density of 339 pixels per inch while the Nexus 9 also has an IPS LCD screen measuring 8.9 inches but has lesser resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels with 281 pixels per inch.
Specs
The Nexus 9 comes with an Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset, along with a dual-core Denver CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz and a Kepler DX1 GPU. The Fire HDX has better specs in the form of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, along with a quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU.
Memory
The Fire HDX and the Nexus 9 both do not have memory slots. As such, external storage cannot be added. In terms of RAM, both have 2 GB each.
Camera
Comparing their cameras, both have an 8-megapixel camera at their rear. However, the Nexus 9 has a better 1.6-megapixel camera on its front while the Fire HDX has a 720p version.
Price
The 16 GB model of Nexus 9 is priced at $385 on Amazon, while the16 GB Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 costs $379.
