'Kong: Skull Island' new teasers, release date, news and updates: New cinematic trailer to be released on Nov. 16
Aside from an ensemble cast, the real big star of the upcoming "Kong: Skull Island" film is none other than King Kong — the legendary giant ape that had been featured in several other "Kong" films in the past.
A new teaser released by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. featured the giant ape in action, and a full-length trailer is promised to come out on Wednesday, Nov. 16, in which fans can finally get a good glimpse of Skull Island.
Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts discussed how they once again revived "King Kong" for modern cinema. "There's been obviously so many different versions of him in the past and ours needed to feel unique to our film," he said. "I had a mandate that I wanted a kid to be able to doodle him on the back of a piece of homework, and for his shapes to be simple and hopefully iconic enough that, like, a third grader could draw that shape and you would know what it is."
Vogt-Roberts also made sure that their Kong is not just some type of giant gorilla, they made sure that Kong is a unique species of his own. "We sort of went back to the 1933 version in the sense that he's a bipedal creature that walks in an upright position, as opposed to the anthropomorphic, anatomically correct silverback gorilla that walks on all fours," he said.
In addition, the new Kong is depicted as a lonely god, "a morose figure, lumbering around this island," Vogt-Roberts described.
"Kong: Skull Island" is slated for a March 10, 2017 release, and it stars Tom Hiddleston ("Thor"), Brie Larson ("Room"), Samuel L. Jackson ("Django Unchained"), John Goodman ("Argo"), John C. Reilly ("Wreck-It Ralph"), and "Straight Outta Compton" stars Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins. Another Kong film, "Godzilla vs. Kong" is also slated for a 2020 release.
