'Kong: Skull Island' release date, news and updates: King Kong swats helicopters in new clips
Next year will see the release of Legendary Pictures' next monster movie, "Kong: Skull Island," and a new trailer is set to be released within the week. Prior to the trailer's launch, two clips have been posted and it featured King Kong swatting helicopters.
The clips were posted on the "Kong: Skull Island" Twitter account, and these count down to the days before the trailer will be released. The first clip had the crew in the helicopters running into the giant gorilla, while the next clip had King Kong grabbing the helicopter out of the air — much to the crew's misfortune.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jordan Vogt-Roberts explained his approach to the reveal of King Kong in the movie. He said, "I'm sort of sick of the notion that a monster movie needs to wait an hour or 40 minutes until the creature shows up... A lot of these movies tend to have this structure that's a bit of a slow burn. Something about this movie made me want to reject that and play a very, very different game."
This might bode well for some members of the audience, because back in 2014, Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla" got some flak from the critics because it took too long to reveal the titular monster. Vogt-Roberts' decision to have a change of pace in the movie could lead to a positive reaction from fans who are already used to seeing big-scale monster movies.
There are also reports that this version of King Kong will be going up against 2014's version of Godzilla in a movie that is already in the works, and it is set for a release in 2020.
"Kong: Skull Island" is set to hit theaters on March 10, 2017.
