'Law & Order: SVU' season 18, episode 9 spoilers: the team tries to bring down a billionaire perp with years of unreported crimes

Rollins (Giddish) and Benson (Hargitay) and Carisi (Scanavino) in "Law & Order: SVU" season 18 episode 9 promo still | NBC

The Manhattan squad will need to dig deep in order to bring justice against an unassuming perpetrator who has been getting away with his shenanigans in the all-new "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

Following a case that hit Benson (Mariska Hargitay) a little bit too close to home as well as her abrupt breakup with Tucker (Robert John Burke), precinct 16's lieutenant will have to suit up and bring out her A-game as this week's assailant is no pushover. Coming from retail royalty, which means a lot of lawyering up, the team will be tried against a billionaire named Lawrence Hendricks Sr. (guest actor Bob Gunton). As it turns out, the wealthy businessman is being accused of sexually harassing a woman after she has been drugged in the upcoming episode titled "Decline and Fall." While doing an in-party bartending for the suspect, the victim has been taken advantage of but unfortunately, she could not recall anything regarding the crime when it was being committed.

As some, if not most, of the suspects that are fueled by money, Hendricks Sr. is by no means feeling any bit of guilt in the crime that he has committed. In fact, the case for ADA Barba (Raul Esparza) no longer revolves around whether the sexual engagement happened or not. Instead, it rounds back again to the core idea of consent as the victim was unconscious during the deed.

It is almost obvious that it will be an uphill battle for the detectives and the prosecutor especially when the tycoon has been getting away with the same thing since the 70s. And if they want to put a stop on this once and for all, they may have to trace back other victims to solidify their case.

In the promo clip for the episode, it seems like Benson's ace and probably last card against Hendricks Sr. will be one of his own descendants. Toward the end of the sneak peek, she asks the businessman's grandson about his reason for protecting him. Apparently, the victim and the younger Hendricks had hang out presumably before the latter was abused. Should the SVU team able to convince the teen boy to tell all against the perp, it may open a can of worms against Hendricks Sr., which they could use to finally pin him down.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" season 18 airs every Wednesday, 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
