'Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' release date, news, updates: launch pushed back but won't be together with Nintendo Switch on March 2017
The upcoming adventure game, "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," has always been expected to come out alongside Nintendo Switch in March 2017 because it is projected as the company's premiere game. New reports, however, suggest that "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will not be seen when the console launches next year, and that its release is pushed back to a later date.
Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, is currently rooting on "Super Mario Run" to be released alongside the new console in 2017. The company's flagship game is said to replace the spot of "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" to spearhead the launch of the console.
As regards the delay of "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," many speculate that it is probably because of the game's expansive and immersive open-world environment that needs more time for developing and testing. Its current time frame, however, does not match Nintendo's Switch intended release sometime in March next year.
According to a reliable Nintendo tipster named Emily Rogers, the localization schedule for "Legend of Zelda" has been extended up until year-end, and four to six months of testing is followed afterward.
Obviously, March is a month earlier for "Legend of Zelda's" at least four-month requirement for testing, given that localization of the game ends by Dec. 2016.
Judging by the timeframe given by Rogers, it may seem likely that "Legend of Zelda" might be finally released on June 2017. Nintendo still has to confirm this estimate in order to make it official.
"Legend of Zelda" was first announced in 2013, and had since been delayed or pushed back for release multiple times since its development. It was also purposely pushed back to coincide with the launch of the Wii in 2015, but that too failed to materialize.
Once the game is launched, it is playable through Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
