Legend Of Zelda Netflix Series Release Date Nearing
A television series based on the popular video game "The Legend of Zelda" may soon be seen on Netflix.
The video streaming service was confirmed to be in the early stages of development in remaking "The Legend of Zelda" as a live-action series, the Hollywood Reported said.
It added that Netflix is still seeking for writers that will work on the new show, which Netflix described to be like "Game of Thrones" for family audience, according to the World Street Journal.
Swords and sorcery are traditionally featured in "Zelda" like the popular book series "Game of Thrones" and "Lord of the Rings." But the video game series has been known to have a more light-hearted, kid-friendly tone.
"As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a 'Legend of Zelda' series actually becomes a reality. It's also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground," the World Street Journal said.
The publication first broke the news about the video game adaptation, saying Netflix is working closely with Nintendo.
The Japanese game developer has made about 20 games based on "The Legend of Zelda" since the original was released in the United States in 1987.
Nintendo is said to be very protective of its intellectual property, allowing only few adaptations over the years including an animated series that ran for just one season in 1989 and a movie based on Super Mario Bros. in 1993.
Netflix has made a name for itself rebooting franchises similar to its latest project, an adaptation of Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events."
The streamer also has a comprehensive deal with Marvel for multiple live-action series based on its comic book universe, the first of which, Jessica Jones, will roll out in 2015.
