Last year when the gameplay footage of "The Legend of Zelda Wii U" was showcased by Nintendo series producers Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma during The Game Awards 2014, they expressed confidence that the game would be released in 2015.

However, two weeks ago Nintendo announced via video that the game was no longer set for release in 2015 as it is now working to bring all gameplay possibilities to life in the open world structure.

While the announcement disappointed many fans, others reacted enthusiastically, saying this meant that Nintendo was planning a better game.

In the video announcement, which was also released on YouTube and Nintendo's Miiverse service, Aonuma apologized to gamers who were expecting the release of the game soon. He said a release date this year was no longer a priority and that the focus had shifted to make "The Legend of Zelda Wii U the most complete and ultimate Zelda game."

Aonuma described that the team developing the game had "discovered several new possibilities" pertaining to gameplay and were working to bring them to life. Aonuma said new ideas have surfaced in making the game which would hopefully exceed expectations of both players and developers. He also added that he had decided not to work towards "meeting a specific schedule and instead invest time in making it the best Wii U game it can possibly be."

Aonuma also announced that the game would not be exhibited during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles on June 16-18 this year.

Nintendo surprised people at Game Awards 2014 with the gameplay footage. Miyamoto said the entire map that was featured in the "Twilight Princess" game would be just one portion of the new "The Legend of Zelda Wii U." This clearly demonstrated that the game was huge in scale. Gamespot said there will be plenty of side quests available to players.
