Leica M10 release date, specs, price news: Streamlined rangefinder camera suited for contemporary photography
Leica has once again impressed photography enthusiasts with the release of the M10, its newest rangefinder camera based on the legendary M-System. The Leica M10 is equipped with all the latest technologies suited for contemporary photography but has a slimmer form factor than its predecessor, the Leica M.
"The Leica M10 unites state-of-the-art technology and exceptional optical performance with a conscious effort on the traditional advantages of the unique Leica M rangefinder system," said Leica Camera AG CEO Oliver Kaltner, adding, "The Leica M10 stands as an outstanding brand statement for the finest arts of engineering, highest quality and craftsmanship.
Leica has optimized the M10's rangefinder making its field of view larger by 30 percent and the magnification factor now at 0.73. Eye-relief has also been increased by 50 percent. All these adjustments allow users to have a more comfortable shooting experience.
There is also a 24-megapixel (MP) full-frame complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor that has been designed specifically for the M10. Compared with the previous generation, there are significant improvements when it comes to dynamic range, contrast rendition, sharpness and resolution of details. The rangefinder camera also features an expanded ISO range from 100 to 50,000. Overall, the M10's unique architecture provides better image quality, especially when dealing with wide angles and fast lenses.
The M10 features the new Maestro II image processor with 2 GB of buffer memory and the ability to shoot at full resolution up to five frames per second (fps), making it the fastest M-camera ever made. There is also a 2.4 MP Visoflex electronic viewfinder.
Leica is known for focusing only on what is vital when it comes photography and the German camera manufacturer does not stray from its philosophy with the M10. The new rangefinder camera features an uncluttered, streamlined design with only the essential functions.
Users have easy access to settings with only three buttons and the joystick control at the back. There is also an ISO setting dial on the top plate that can adjust the focus, aperture, shutter speed and ISO values without needing to access the menu. The Favorites Menu is also configurable to suit the different preferences of photographers.
With WLAN connectivity, users can easily transfer photos from the M10 to Apple mobile devices via the M-App. This facilitates post-production of images as well as sharing of content through the user's social media networks.
Leica is offering limited quantities of the M10, which is now available to purchase for $6,595.
