Lenovo ThinkPad update brings Kaby Lake processor, circuit guard for battery, Windows Precision and more
Lenovo fans expect that the company will bring updates to the hit Lenovo ThinkPad at the upcoming CES 2017, but were surprised when the company rolled out new features to the ThinkPad series before the event begins. The update includes Kaby Lake, circuit guard that controls power and more.
The company reportedly considered the power issues that some of its rival companies experienced like the exploding batteries of Samsung Note 7 and charging issues of Chromebook. Lenovo is reportedly gearing up for a fresh new line of ThinkPads that have a chip to prevent the batteries from being exploded as a result of faulty USB-C connection.
Lenovo does this by developing a "new protection circuit to guard against incorrect power levels," which will handle the power from the cable. This is to make sure that the device is not getting the excess power it needs, or suffer from lack of power. To simply put it, the circuit can manage the amount of power that the device only needs.
The circuit will be located near the USB Type-C port and functions manually to adjust the necessary power. According to Gizmodo, the circuit can be comparable to Google's USB-PD standard that is being pushed to the manufacturers of Android devices.
This, however, does not entirely prevent the user from danger. Of course, there are more ways to prevent battery life like the users' personal responsibility to prolong the battery life. Furthermore, there are certain issues regarding the use of USB Type-C port in charging devices.
In related news, Lenovo is also installing Windows Precision to their ThinkPad laptops, which will bring touchpad gestures to the device. The support will include several models like ThinkPad Yoga 370, ThinkPad X270, ThinkPad 13 and four new models of ThinkPad T Ultrabook.
Other new updates include Windows Hello support, biometric matching, authentication features, among others.
