LG G6 release date, specs latest news: LG G5 sequel to ditch removable battery
LG Electronics is looking to make some drastic changes in the design of its highly anticipated flagship, the LG G6, according to a new report.
Korea-based publication ET News is claiming that the LG G6 will not have a removable battery, one of the enduring features of the line, and will have a sealed body instead.
This change is expected to ultimately pave the way for the tech company to introduce a waterproof design for the LG G6. On a side note, the LG G5 appears to be the only flagship from this year to feature a removable battery.
The tech giant will use an economical but effective alternative that is adhesive instead of tape, which its rival, Samsung, uses for its waterproofing needs with its smartphones.
"The climate of Japan is humid and rainy, and the hot spring culture has developed and demand for waterproof phones has been high," an LG representative told ET News.
If the lauded work of LG on the V-series devices in the aspect of durability and enhanced protection are anything to go by, LG G6 is expected to impress and should go unscathed after splashes and falls.
LG going waterproof is not a shock to those who follow the mobile scene. With Samsung entering such territory, LG was bound to follow suit if they do not want to be left behind.
It remains to be seen, however, how users who were fond of removable batteries to accept this change in the LG G6. Samsung ditched such with the Galaxy S6.
Although Samsung provided a workaround on that (one it suggests to be performed by a repair agent), many were still disappointed about the change. The Samsung Galaxy S7 was the same, but it met its downfall with another battery-related issue.
This would not be the only change the LG G6 will get in the battery department. A report by The Investor, another Korean publication, suggests that it will offer wireless charging.
The LG G6 is expected to be released in February next year.
