Although the Mobile World Congress will not be featuring a Samsung flagship smartphone as its usual centerpiece in this year's event in Barcelona, another Korean company has stepped in to fill the void. LG will be unveiling its next flagship Android phone, the G6, on Feb. 26.

The Verge recently shared a leaked photo of the LG G6, which displayed the gadget's minimized bezels and rounded screen corners. The media outlet has also confirmed that the G6 will be sporting a large 5.7-inch display with an unusual aspect ratio of 2:1. The new Android phone's screen-to-bezel ratio is also greater than 90 percent.

Abandoning the modular design of the G5, LG has reportedly prioritized revamping the G6's design this year. There are reports that the G6 will be made entirely out of glass and metal, a departure from the usual plastic covering of the company's earlier flagship gadgets. The phone will also have a headphone jack, and it will be waterproof. However, its battery will no longer be replaceable.

The features of the G5 model has not completely been abandoned in the development of the LG G6. The rear design of the device, as well as the dual-camera system and center-mounted fingerprint sensor, are expected to be part of the G6's laudable features.

There are also reports that the LG G6 could be the first phone outside of Google's Pixel line to support Google Assistant, an AI system designed by Google. The move to integrate the AI system into the upcoming LG handset is for the strengthening of LG's ties with global companies as well as for the bolstering of its smartphone business.

For years, LG has struggled to earn meaningful profit and leave an indelible mark in the mobile phone industry. Hence, a lot is on the line with the launch of the LG G6 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Feb. 26.
