'Logan' news: Hugh Jackman explains why he is 'hesitating' to do a Wolverine-Deadpool crossover project

Hugh Jackman has time and time again reiterated that "Logan" will be his swan song to the adamantium claws. After all, it has been 17 years already since he took the mantle and it was no secret how physically grueling it is for him to bulk up for the role every once in a while. However, that does not mean that fans of the character are also set to let him go. A highly clamored Wolverine–Deadpool spinoff continues to be pushed by aficionados including Ryan Reynolds.

The Canadian actor, who successfully came back in the superhero genre after two failed attempts this year with the merc with a mouth, has not shied away from expressing his eagerness to work with Jackman for the tipped collaboration. But the 48-year-old "X-Men" veteran admits that while the idea is tempting, he is still back and forth with the prospect.

"I'm hesitating, because I could totally see how that's the perfect fit," Jackman candidly said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly adding that "the timing may be wrong."

Needless to say, that is not a blatant no from his part leaving some glimmer of hope for fans and even Reynolds to see a proper Wolverine–Deadpool team up better than what the audience saw in "X-Men: Origins."

Meanwhile, in Reynolds' profile with Variety, he hints at something that "Logan" may be able to do for the superhero genre that has been picking up in the last few years. He says that the James Mangold flick "looks like a movie that might break that glass ceiling."

"I know first-hand that it's amazing. I've seen some of it. It's mind-blowing," Blake Lively's husband gushed. "It relies a lot on character," he added.

Judging by the sample serving alone via the trailer, Jackman's supposed farewell-to-the-role project that catapulted him to superstardom packs on a different flavor. Instead of the usual wide-scope, city-destroying narrative, the story feels very intimate almost like tapping on the rawness of indie films. Backing up the tone is that of Mangold recently explaining about bringing in some level of maturity to the film, which is only fitting given that Jackman has been playing the character for almost two decades now.

"Logan is an attempt to bring an end to Hugh's amazing line of performances as Wolverine," the director told The Playlist. "And the ambition of doing that is to try and make an 'adult film' about Wolverine. To make a movie for grownups. We're not trying to make a movie that [satisfies] everyone. We're trying to make a movie that stands out and is different because it's kind of a grownup drama that also features intense action."

"Logan" hits theaters on March 3.
