'Longmire' season 6 news, spoilers, & updates: Fans start online petition for renewal; Lou Diamond Phillips hint show's bright future?

"Longmire" season 5 was made available for streaming on Netflix only last Sept. 23, but this early, fans are clamoring for a season 6. So much is the hype for "Longmire" season 6 that some fans even started an online petition for the renewal of the series.

As per reports, there's a movement called "Stampede" in which fans of the show based on Craig Johnson's book series are invited to participate. To date, Netflix has kept mum about its plans for the show, although fans are optimistic it will be given the greenlight, considering the cliffhanger ending of season 5.

Those who have streamed the series on Netflix from the first to the last episode of season 5 know that it ended with a cliffhanger that involves Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Phillips). The finale established an arc that would be a waste if the streaming giant decides not to continue it.

Moreover, Game n Guide notes that the full, 10 serialized episodes streamed through Netflix on Sept. 23 was a big hit among fans. "Longmire" season 5 apparently garnered more than six million web viewers in one day, and it will be a dishonor to fans if they don't get to see what happens to their favorite characters.

Just recently, Johnson released a novella on the "Longmire" mysteries, thereby raising fans' hope that it will be the source of inspiration for season 6. In addition, Phillips admitted through an interview that there's a big chance a sixth installment will be given the green light based on fans' reception of season 5.

There are rumors that the fans' praises for the actors' performance in season 5 have prompted Netflix to review the storyline and scripts. Hence, a vote could be made for "Longmire" season 6. Still, with no direct word coming from Netflix as of yet, news and speculations about a possible sixth season should be taken with a grain of salt.

Should there be a "Longmire" season 6, the much-awaited union between Vic (Katee Sackhoff) and Walt (Robert Taylor) could finally happen. However, fans could expect a rough start to that, seeing as how Vic's pregnancy that was bared in season 5 could become an obstacle in that romance.

Meanwhile, fans are urged to wait until next month for Netflix's announcement regarding "Longmire" season 6. After all, it took them almost two months to announce a fifth season after the release of season 4.
